    Safeguarding at Walford Nursery & Primary School

    At Walford Nursery & Primary School, we have a child centred and coordinated approach to safeguarding.

    Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is everyone’s responsibility.  Everyone who comes into contact with children and their families has a role to play.  All practitioners make sure their approach is child-centred.  This means they consider, at all times, what is in the best interests of the child. 

    If children and families at Walford Nursery & Primary School are to receive the right help at the right time, everyone who comes into contact with them has a role to play in identifying concerns, sharing information and taking prompt action.  Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is defined as:

    •  protecting children from maltreatment; 
    •  preventing impairment of children’s mental and physical health or development; 
    •  ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care; 
    •  taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes. 

    Children includes everyone under the age of 18.

    • Parental Controls: UK Safer Internet Centre How to set up filters on your home internet to help prevent age inappropriate content being accessed on devices in your home. The 4 big internet providers in the UK – BT, Sky, TalkTalk and Virgin Media – provide their customers with free parental controls which can be activated at any time. They have come together to produce these helpful video guides to help you to download and set-up the controls offered by your provider. We know that children, particularly younger children, can be bothered by things they see online, and filters can be a helpful tool in reducing the chances of coming across something upsetting.
    • Resources for Parents and Carers: UK Safer Internet Centre As a parent or carer you play a key role in helping your child to stay safe online. You don't need to be an expert on the internet to help keep your child stay safe online. Our advice and resources are here to support you as you support your child to use the internet safely, responsibility and positively.
    • West Midlands Child Protection and Safeguarding Within the West Midlands, there are nine local areas that collaborate with regards to child safeguarding procedures. With the introduction of Working Together to Safeguard Children 2018, each local area's multi-agency safeguarding arrangements are led by the statutory safeguarding partners/organisations: local authorities, clinical commissioning groups and the police.
    • Herefordshire Safeguarding Children Partnership The Herefordshire Safeguarding Children Partnership (HSCP) is a statutory body established under the new arrangements of Working Together to Safeguard Children 2018. The HSCP is led by three Safeguarding Partners: Herefordshire Council's Children's Services; NHS Herefordshire and Worcestershire Clinical Commissioning Group and West Mercia Police.
