Fiver from Home
The Fiver from Home project is a fun way for pupils (5-11) to imagine what business they could create with just a £5 note.
Fiver from Home helps children to develop key skills, including:
Once they complete the workbook and activities, they even get a participation certificate to celebrate their achievement!
Work through the 4 parts of the Fiver from Home Workbook, completing the activities and using guiding documents.
The Wordguide offers explanations with relevant examples all of the terms in the workbook in case this is the first time seeing them.
For parents / carers supervising or delivering Fiver from Home, we have Top tips for Parents sheet that offers a few suggestions on how to keep your young people engaged and having fun throughout the project.
Think it!
Here’s a fiver, what business could you start?
Use the workbook to create an idea, name your business and use our Top Tips to create a logo.
Research it!
Use the Remote Market Research Template and example questions to find out what your customers think. This should be completed via telephone or email with people you know.
Plan it!
Use the third part of the workbook to create your business plan by answering the questions in the business plan section. Draw your product or create a poster for your service.
Pitch it!
In the final part of the workbook plan, write and then present a sales pitch to someone in your home.
There are plenty of tips on what to include and how to present the sales pitch in the workbook.
Once you have finished, share examples of your work on Showbie.
Complete the checklist and send it back on Showbie to receive a certificate.
Whole School Challenge
Here’s a song you can all learn together and then we can sing it together when we come back together at school. You could even have a go at creating a simple dance routine for the chorus.
Jimmy Cliff – I can see clearly now…

Corridor for Nature Project
Canal River Trust
Canals and rivers are often referred to as ‘Corridors for Nature’. They are home to hundreds of species of plants and animals. The areas around our canals and rivers provide six very different habitats.
We’d like you to think about how you could re-design an area of your garden or outside space to create a Corridor for Nature at your home. Your designs should be inspired by one or more of the canal and river habitats.
We'd love to see your final designs. Share them with us on the Explorers or Twitter pages.
Visit https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/explorers/learning-from-home/corridor-for-nature to find out more.

Creative Afternoon: activity ideas for all ages!
Read the story ‘The Night Pirates’ or listen to it being read to you.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mdWxBn-xvrQ
Talk about the story
There are lots of questions included in the story, talk about them as you share the book; including the last one ‘No one would ever find out….would they? ’What do children think?
Did anything surprise children about the story?
What might mum or dad say if Tom tells them about the night pirates?
Role-play
Children could pretend to be Tom in the crow’s nest illustrated on the cover, perhaps using a large plastic storage container or linen basket to sit in. You could use the telescope you made in the White Rose Maths activity and you might like to make a pirate flag as well (see attachment below).
Together, role-play a conversation between one of the girl pirates and Tom on the ship. What orders might Tom be given?
Write a pirate log
Children can write Tom’s ‘log’ or diary for the night in the story using the attached Pirate Log template.
I can’t wait to see what you have done today so please remember to upload them on Showbie or send them to me via email!

Royal Crown Derby’s
‘Make a Mug, Make a Difference’ campaign.
A competition is now open for young people to design a mug that celebrates the NHS. The winning mugs will then be produced by Royal Crown Derby who aim to make and sell 26,299 mugs, representing and celebrating every day that the NHS has been making our lives better since its formation on 5 July 1948 to its 72nd anniversary in 2020.
Royal Crown Derby are donating all profits to NHS Charities Together COVID-19 Urgent appeal. The mugs are available to order now and personalised gift messaging is complimentary.
In addition, they hope that this campaign will give young people an engaging challenge, showcase creativity and encourage education about the NHS.
There will be two prize winners who will:
Visit the Royal Crown Derby factory to see the mugs being made and receive
the very first mug off the production line.
Have a tour of the Palace of Westminster and will be presented with the first mug
off the production line together with their framed artwork.
Visit the V&A Museum in London where their mugs will be exhibited.

Starting School
I am so pleased to hear that many of our pre-school children will be joining me in Reception Class in September. For more information please see the school website – Key information – starting school 2020.
Congratulations to you all!
Daily routine
If you would like to try a more structured routine while your child is home from school, then I have attached a suggested daily timetable. However, every child is different – the key to success is being flexible and finding a routine that works for you.
Please remember, play is still the most valuable thing you can do with your children and children will be constantly learning while they play.
National Literacy Trust

Monday 30th March
Good morning Nursery and Reception
I hope you have all had a restful weekend and are ready for some more fun home learning activities this week!
Activities will be based around the story ‘We’re Going on an Egg Hunt’ by Martha Munford. Lots of the activities are maths based, but don’t worry you do not need the book to take part!
Daily routine
If you would like to try sticking to a more structured routine while your child is home from school, then I have attached a document with some ideas to get you started. However, these are just some helpful ideas, every child is different – the key to success is being flexible and finding a routine that works for you. Remember, play is still the most valuable thing you can do with your children and children will be constantly learning while they play.
Twinkl provide daily home learning ideas for all age groups as well as support pages, please follow the link:

Even though we are learning at home I would still like to continue with our topic ‘Our Favourite Stories’. This week’s story focus is ‘We’re Going on an Egg Hunt’.
Based on We’re Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen and Helen Oxenbury, the story follows a family of rabbits looking for Easter eggs. Instead of going through grass or snow, the rabbits encounter lambs, chicks, bees and ducks. The refrain of ‘Can’t go over them, Can’t go under them, Can’t go around them’ is repeated every time the rabbits encounter an obstacle.
Then the rabbits, laden with eggs, come across a wolf hiding behind an enormous egg. The rabbits scurry home retracing their steps but dropping a few eggs on their way back. Safely home, they slam the door to stop the wolf before eating their eggs. Right at the back of the book, we see the wolf eating his ill-gotten gains.
If you do not have the book you can listen to it being read via this link;
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q35GN23ZFzM
Please find attached some maths related activity ideas based on the story – there are lots here so please don’t feel you have to do them all today!
I love seeing photos of you all so please remember to upload them on showbie!
Best wishes,
Mrs Hyde

This is our last day on the story ‘The Gruffalo’ and the children should now be able to ‘read’ the story to you!
(They might not be able to read each individual word but should be able to recite it from memory – a vital story telling skill!)
Key question; Would you like to have tea with the Gruffalo?
Can the children answer the question and give their reasons why they would/would not like to have tea with a Gruffalo.
I have attached a worksheet for children to draw and describe their own terrible creature!
I look forward to seeing what you have been learning today!
Best wishes,
Mrs Hyde

Tuesday 24th March
Dear Reception and Nursery
Our school has closed, just for a while,
But our learning will not stop but just change in style.
There’s a very nasty bug that we don’t want you to get,
So it’s best to stay at home and try not to get upset.
It’s okay if you feel a little scared or sad,
It’s hard when things are different but not everything is bad.
I will be at my house and you will be at yours,
You will carry on with learning and play and help with chores.
Be sure to check the school website for what to do each day,
Include our maths, phonics and reading tasks and don’t forget to play.
Whilst many things are changing some things will stay the same,
I am still your teacher and ‘Team Walford’ is still our name.
We’ll help support each other and keep in touch for sure,
Once everything is safe again we’ll run back through the door.
We’ll be back with our friends again at school and parties too,
But whilst things are different I’ll send you work to do!
Thinking of you all,
Mrs Hyde x
